Admission of new undergraduate students at FKIK UNIB is held with the following principles:
a. Fair. The BM Study Programme did not discriminate against religion, ethnicity, race,
gender, age, social status, physical condition, and level of the financial condition of the prospective students while still concerning on the potential and academic achievements of the prospective students;
b. Accountable. The BM Study Programme conducted the admission process following a clear procedure and criteria;
c. Flexible. The potential scholastic test (henceforth TPS – Tes Potensi Skolastik) is held several times, and each prospective student can take more than one test through the SNMPTN, SBMPTN, or SMMPTN;
d. Efficient. The FKIK UNIB admission test uses information and communication technology, involving human resources and time flexibility; and
e. Transparent. The implementation of new student admissions for FKIK of UNIB, is conducted openly, and the results can be accessed easily.
At the University of Bengkulu, the competition rate of admission selection is higher than 1:20 (Table 31). Every year, the pattern of student recruitment is based on the ratio between lecturers and students. On average, FKIK of UNIB recruits 50 new students every year. Students who passed the selection are not only from Bengkulu Province but also from other provinces such as North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Riau Islands, South Sumatra, Lampung, Jambi, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, DI Yogyakarta, East Java, and Papua. The socio-economic background of the students is quite diverse. However, students with great achievements but financial limitations can still continue their education in the Bachelor in Medicine Study Programme and the Medical Profession Doctor Education programme with the help of the graded UKT and scholarships. FKIK UNIB has also accepted BIDIK MISI students to facilitate students from marginal groups in the last four years. The ratio of male and female students in the last five years is 1: 3. Currently, the total number of students is 324 students at the Bachelor in Medicine Study Programme and 230 students at the Medical Profession Doctor Education programme.
The average ratio of prospective students participating in the selection and the Bachelor in Medicine Study Programme quotas increased in 2020. In 2020 FKIK accepted 108 students through the SNMPTN, SBMPTN, and SMMPTN admission systems. The number of applicants fluctuates from year to year. The high admission competition rate indicates the student admissions’ sustainability.
